Crystal growth and properties of inorganic materials
Team leader: Pr. Derbal Mourad
Keywords : Inorganic, Crystalline Structure, Solid State Reactions, optical properties, RAMAN, Infra Red.
Scientific description of the team's research program:
The theme of our study is focused on the synthesis and growth by solidification from the liquid state of inorganic compounds doped with rare earth ions. We base ourselves on materials whose optical properties seem interesting and not yet studied. Double tungstate and molybdate materials doped with rare earths find a wide field of application mainly focused on photonics (solid state lasers, amplifiers for optical telecommunications, display devices, etc.). We studied the different methods for synthesizing our inorganic compounds, then we moved on to the crystallogenesis step appropriate for these materials. Initially, the studies will be carried out on polycrystals obtained in the form of powders (by solid phase reaction), on which structural and thermal characterizations will be carried out.
A suitable material must be characterized by high chemical stability, specific mechanical, thermal and optical properties. It is the increasingly confirmed mastery of the techniques of materials chemistry, crystal growth, structural and spectroscopic characterization, which has contributed to an in-depth understanding of the phenomena involved.
Structural and optical properties of potential candidates for solid state lasers, scintillator materials and detectors based on molybdates and tungstates.
The family of materials that we studied are compounds of the general form AB1-xREx(XO4)2, where A are monovalent alkaline ions (Na+, K+, Li+, etc.), B are trivalent ions (Y3+, Bi3+, Al3+ …), X-rays, Raman and IR). Thermally analyze materials by ATD, ATG and DSC. Chemical analyzes using the following techniques: XFR, EDS.
